Brief History of Reflexology
Reflexology has both eastern and western origins. Paintings have been found on Egyptian tombs depicting the giving and receiving of hand and feet treatments dating back to 2500BC. Pressure massage applied to the feet, hands and ears have been passed down from generation to generation by Buddhist monks and Native Americans.
Zone Therapy
Zone therapy is based on the theory that there are ten main longitudinal zones that run through the body. Dr Fitzgerald found that applying pressure within these zones could reduce pain by applying pressure to the nerve reflexes. Scientific research discovered by Sir Henry head and sir Charles Sherrington went on to prove that there was in fact an connection between the skin and the organs of the body via the nervous system.
Eunice Ingram
Eunice Ingram (also known as the mother of modern reflexology) went on to developed zone therapy further. She mapped the entire body into the feet and realised that a healing effect occurred whilst applying pressure in certain areas of the feet.
Reflexology is a popular complementary treatment which uses specialised massage techniques such as finger walking and applying firm pressure to the reflex points that are found within the feet and the hands. These reflex areas correspond to parts of the body. The whole body is represented in the feet.

The word Reflexology means:-
• Reflex - reflected
• Ology - the study of
• Holistic - the whole person
• Therapy - healing
Reflexology does not claim to cure, however different ailments have been successfully treated by using reflexology.
Benefits of reflexology:

What to expect during a treatment?
The therapist will take a detailed medical history during the consultation process and then examine the feet. Massage is used along with firm pressure using the side and end of the thumb. Clients may feel tender areas when pressure is applied, this could indicate an imbalance. The full treatment session should last one hour, depending if feet or hands are being treated. Generally a course of six treatments is advisable for maximum results.
Results over the six week period:
Week 1 ~ 2 releasing toxins in the body
Week 3 ~ 4 body healing it self
Week 5 ~ 6 positive out look and increased energy levels
